This castle was the stronghold of the notorious Black Douglases and built in 1369 by Archibald 'The Grim'!

The lands around the castle are now a reinstated wetland, providing a much needed habitat for wildfoul and nesting birds. This site is also famous for a breeding pair of osprey who are the first to migrate to the UK in the summer months to hatch and raise their young.
