Burrowhead Butterfly

This butterfly has been made using a copy of a lovely Bartholomew's map of Galloway from 1950.

Bartholomew was a very canny Scot who took Ordnance Survey maps and made them pretty for the tourist trade, at the turn of the 20th century.
He developed a form of colour layering to maps called the hypsometric system, which used gradients of colour to depict the height of the land and the depth of the sea.

The butterfly is presented in a pine shadow box with dimensions; 12cm(W) 12cm(H) 3.5cm(D)
